In the process of creating his official debut album, SG Lewis set out to capture the essence of the dance floor, and after the times of lockdown and abandoned clubs transpired, the need for an escape created the perfect moment for the album’s arrival. A well-versed student of the sound and style he attempts to mirror, SG Lewis delivers true euphoria through his irresistibly joyful and moving blend of house, disco, pop, and funk.

Conceptually, the sequencing of the album emulates the journey of going to the club, from start to end. The night starts with heart-pumping disco-pop that gets listeners instantly on their feet, such as the Lucky Daye-featured “Feed The Fire,” with its relentlessly funky bass line, or the passionate disco number “One More,” with legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers supplying the electrifying heartbeat of the record.

The journey takes a turn at the midway point with the heart-rendering “Heartbreak On The Dancefloor,” immersing listeners in a wave of luscious textures and layered vocals from guest artist Frances, before turning back to the restless energy of the dance floor with the intoxicating “Chemicals” and high-intensity “Impact.” The night finally reaches its climax with the heaviest club-influenced “All We Have,” bringing the final euphoric moment of the night to its conclusion.

All in all, this debut remains faithful to his intended vision, as SG Lewis triumphs in his ability to capture the feeling of pure elation in a cohesively structured collection of tracks. ‘times’ will surely be a strong stand-in to tie listeners over until the lockdown ends and clubs can open once again.
